STRAND
This new development is currently under construction in the Narjas district of Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on King Salman Road. Covering three football fields with 187,000 square feet of mixed-use commercial space, Strand will be a place for its residential neighborhood and a destination. This dynamic three-level outdoor collection of buildings is based on the allure of a traditional Middle Eastern Souk, yet with contemporary architecture. Twelve interconnected and irregular shaped buildings are arranged along a long, narrow site. The development will have a strategic amount of outdoor public space for the community balanced with numerous small retail spaces for local businesses. Clad in Riyadh Limestone, the street-facing walls of the multiple buildings establish an iconic continuum and overall unity.
Strand aims to foster a vibrant community atmosphere, offering outdoor public spaces for social interaction catalyzed by shade, water, landscape, and sculpture. Up one floor, a prominent skywalk zigs and zags the full length of the project, which will establish an upper level of commerce. And at the top floors, offices will extend from one end to the other.
