LOEWS MIAMI BEACH HOTEL

As part of a $50 million-dollar renovation to the resort, CCS completed a renovation to the exterior grounds at the historic Loews Miami Beach hotel in the resort destination capital of South Beach. The design was an exercise in the outdoor living culture of South Florida. In addition to a full modernization of the expansive pool deck, palm breezeway, St Moritz and Americana lawns, CCS created a fully sheltered pool side bar and rental cabanas throughout the grounds, updated four pool area baths, added a discrete service building to the Americana Lawn and added a Towel Kiosk to the historic hotel.

The crown of the expansive pool deck renovation is the replacement of the existing hotel water feature with a series of exclusive shaded cabana structures. The aluminum framed cabanas feature slatted screen walls to shade from the SouthFlorida sun and offer a sense of privacy from the busy pool. CCS developed swiveling lounge chairs which are perched over the reworked waterfall, custom outdoor sectionals and side tables with built-in ice chests.

The roof of the Nautilus Bar separates the pool deck from the manicured AmericanaLawn to the north. Inspired by the curves of the hotels historic design and the local arte moderne architecture ofMorris Lapidus, white concrete cantilevered eaves project above the bar to cast deep shadows and protect the guests from rain during the summer. The underside of the roof is finished with a weathered wood surface like the ceiling of a classic Florida veranda, while ceramic tiles on the bar wall echo the cool modern grayscale motif of the resort. Mature palms were able to remain in place during construction and extend through the roof of the bar through large circular openings, helping to bring the dense Florida landscape of the resorts perimeter into the dining area.
